Unforgettable at Hedingham Castle

Last month Essex wedding duo, Unforgettable had the pleasure of playing for the wedding of Laura and Theo at Hedingham Castle. We played for both the ceremony In the keep and throughout the wedding breakfast.
Laura decided that she wanted to walk down the aisle to Songbird by Eva Cassidy but as a joke Dave, our saxophonist was asked to play the introduction to The Pink Panther which made all the guests laugh and everyone relax.
The signing of the registers was to Wonderful World on saxophone followed by The Rose. The recessional was to I’ve Got You Under My Skin.
Whilst the guests headed back to the house to have drinks, the duo set up the PA in the beautiful marquee ready to welcome the new Mr and Mrs Philips into dinner to Bruno Mars and the very appropriate Marry You.
Throughout the breakfast London wedding duo, Unforgettable played a selection of songs by artists including Michael Buble, Diana Krall, Adele and Frank Sinatra.

Case Study – Karen and Grant Prested Hall September 2011

Last september the band had the pleasure of playing for Grant and Karen’s wedding at Prested Hall in Feering. I worked closely with the couple to provide music for their ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast and of course the party.
Karen and Grant had very different tastes in music and I wasn’t sure how we were going to incorporate something for both of them. We had a planning meeting earlier in the year at the venue and I must say I was instantly impressed with the staff we met and their attention to detail, always a good sign.

The ceremony was being held outside, weather permitting. Karen wanted some Michael Buble and Grant wanted Genesis. I could tell this was going to be interesting, but we settled on ‘Crazy Love’ for the brides entrance, ‘Signed Sealed Delivered’ for the signing of the registers and ‘Follow You, Follow Me’ by Genesis. Which was very apt having listened carefully to the lyrics.

The sun was shining and the ceremony realy was beautiful under the gazebo by the stream. Drinks followed outside with the jazz trio playing a selection of classic swing and a jazz twist on some pop, do have a look of the video.

The trio then played the new Mr and Mrs Huggins-Taberham into the marquee to Another One Bites The Dust by Queen, which made all the guests laugh. More background music was played live by the jazz trio whilst the wedding breakfast was served and the sun continued to shine.

After dinner all the guests headed into the orangery in the main house ready for the party. The couple choose for their first dance and they had booked the 7 piece band for the evening, so an extra male vocalist and a saxophone. Take a look at the highlight video that we filmed on the iphone on the day. We do this for pretty much all of our weddings and events and then post them up onto Facebook for everyone to see.

Here is just one wedding that we have organised, we offer a completely bespoke package for those clients to whom music will play a big part in their day. Call us now to see how we can help you. We offer a FREE no obligation consultation to discuss your plans.

How we can help you

It all started with Essex wedding band, One Foot in the Groove nearly ten years ag0. It wasn’t soon before we were being asked to provide our brides with music for their ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast. Could we provide a swing band, what about an acoustic guitar. We decided that using the exceptionally talented musicians that play with Herts wedding band, One Foot in the Groove we would expand to meet the demands and so at the end of last year Groove Music was born.

Groove Music is not an agency, but a management company. All of our bands and musicians are managed by us, you are booking them direct so there are no additional costs. Our bands have been conceived, developed and managed by us to provide brilliant live musci for your wedding or event. We also have professional DJ’s that also work with us and they can be provided with any of our live musicians and bands.

We always say that we don’t just book you a band for your party or wedding but we help plan the music for your event. Its important that we respond to your requests and provide you with suitable live music that fits your music requirements and importantly your budget. Restricted Budget

In the climate we live its a familiar story, you want the big wedding band in Essex, but the budget will only stretch to a DJ or is there another option?
What about a compromise between the two, book a duo or a trio instead. Better then just having a DJ and much cheaper than a 5 piece band. Herfordshire wedding band, One Foot in the Groove do occasionally go out as a duo or trio when a client really wants the band but can’t quite afford it. It is a great half way house if you like. We are still able to cover the material that we do when everything is live, infact we can do quite a few more songs as an Essex wedding duo or trio because we use backing tracks and we have hundreds!

So how does it work? If you book Essex wedding duo, One Foot in the Groove then you get guitar/male vocals and female vocals, with the trio we add a saxophone. This way you get something visual and the most exciting instruments in the band and of course both male and female lead vocals. A lot of the backing we use is actually the band playing live, so its not cheap nasty karaoke tracks you’ll hear, but a really full and professional sound.
This option is also great at a venue where there is a sound limiter and a bigger band is not suitable. Do get in touch if you have any questions about our duo/trio option.

Live music for your wedding ceremony

A lot of couples don’t realise how you can really personlise your wedding ceremony. Whether you are having a civil or a religious ceremony music really can make it all the more intimate and personal. There are some restrictions with a civil ceremony in the fact that you can’t have any music with any religious connatations, but other than that anything goes.

When it comes to deciding what live music to have, I always give my clients the advice to think of the songs you’d like to incorporate first and that often dictates what instruments would be best suited. Essex wedding band, One Foot in the Groove are so much more than just a band. We can provide a variety of music solutions for your wedding using the wonderful and talented musicians we have at our disposal. We always say that we don’t just book you a band, we plan the music for your wedding.

For example say you wanted to walk down the ailse to Songbird, by Eva Cassidy and you wanted to leave the ceremony to All You Need is Love by The Beatles. Songbird is all about the lyrics and so you really need someone to sing it. All You Need is Love could be instrumental and like Songbird is Guitar Led. I would suggest guitar, female vocals and piano. That way you have guitar on both and the piano gives it more depth and female vocals to sing Songbird.

Don’t forget of course you need a song for the signing of the register. In fact I always get my clients to choose two songs as if the photographer is taking lots of pictures you’ll need more than one song. At this point the guests are often listening, so again think lyrics and something your guests might like to hear.

Finally, the recessional, the song you will walk out to as husband and wife. Try and think of something upbeat as this is the time to begin the celebrations, good choices are songs like; Love is in the Air, All You Need is Love, She’s so Lovely, Higher and Higher, Just The Way you Are. Remember anything goes, its your weddding ceremony and your chance to personalise it.

What’s Your First Dance?

Whether you are having live music in Essex or a DJ for your wedding one of the things you need to give some thought to is your first dance. I meet so many couples who can’t decide what to have for their first dance. The thing to do if you don’t have a song is think about the time that you met, what was around at that time? think about the music you both like to listen to now, is there a favourite artist you both like? and always think about the lyrics they are so important.

Anything goes when it comes to your first dance, after all it is your wedding. Over the years I have literally sang allsorts of songs, from the lovely ballads; Songbird, Feel My Love, Stuck on You, Heaven to more unusual songs like Times Like These by the Foo Fighters and You Look Good on the Dancefloor by the Artic Monkeys!! See what I mean when anything goes.

If you are having a DJ then getting the song is easy, if you are having a wedding band in Essex  then its a little harder. Some bands won’t learn your first dance, as they are unable to do so,  you would have to play a recording, that’s not much good. A good top professional wedding band in Essex will be able to learn and play absolutely anything that you want. We are certainly happy to learn anything we are asked to.

I have listed my top ten songs, these are all songs that we have performed over the last few years and are in no particular order, just some of my personal favourites.

Times Like These – The Foo Fighters
So Amazing – Luther Vandross
Heaven – Bryan Adams/DJ Sammy
Feel My Love – Adele
Use Somebody – Kings of Leon
Rule The World – Take That
Fallen – Lauren Wood
Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol
Everything – Michael Buble
L.O.V.E – Nat King Cole

Wedding Fayres. Good or a waste of Time?

Its that time of the year when every weekend you can attend at least one wedding fayre, lets face it there are loads, but are there too many? Yes. There are lots of companies now who organise wedding fayres and some of them are excellent. They market the fayres and they get brides through the door. Others do very little other than take suppliers money. For a bride they are often an excellent way of collecting information, talking to suppliers and getting ideas for their wedding. The problem for the bride is because there are so many the quality of each fayre gets diluted, so you might go and there may not be that many suppliers or in some cases there might be loads of photographers and nothing else!!
The best wedding fayres are the big ones at exhibition centres where you will find lots of options to consider when planning your day, or venue open days, when the venue will have invited suppliers whose work they like to exhibit. At least then you know that the supplier is trusted and professional. In a pretty much unregulated industry anyone can bake cakes, take photos, start a band or do flowers. That doesn’t make them photographers, musicians or florists.

The one thing I do like about wedding fayres from a suppliers point of view is that you get to meet and chat to your potential clients and I do believe that people buy from people. Happy planning!

Band in the Press

Its lovely when the band get featured in the press. The last edition of Brides Etc magazine featured the December wedding of Kimberley and Phil at Tewin Bury Farm. We got to work with some familiar faces and some of our favourite suppliers; Neil Fortescue, Essex wedding photographer, Jim Cliff from Aardvark wedding films and Carla and Jan from Elegant Stems. In fact Jim filmed the band in the evening and you can see some of the video on the main site. The wedding was a perfect pre Christmas wedding and the snow fell. Kim and Phil found Essex wedding band, One Foot in the Groove on the internet, which is how so many of our couples find us and they decided we were the band for them. Here is the article.
