The Band

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

Each booking is priced according to the event's location and timings (ie setup/start/finish). Prices quoted are usually based on a set up time not before 6pm and finishing no later than midnight. Early set up times, before a sit-down meal for example, can incur an extra charge.

How long do you play for?

A maximum of 2.5 hours. This is divided up into 2 or 3 sets depending on the time the event starts and finishes. We always endeavour to fit in as much live music as possible

How much time do you need to set up?

We normally ask for an hour to set up and sound check. This varies from venue to venue depending on ease of access. It can often take longer in Marquees due to their location. For a wedding the band will normally set up once speeches are completed and the room is cleared. This allows guest to stretch their legs and chat to other guests.

How much space does the band need?

A safe and sturdy performance area no smaller than 16' x 10'. A stable regulated 240v AC power supply with a minimum of two 13amp sockets within an easy reach of the performance area.

Will we need to feed the band?

When we are performing at an event our working day is often 12 hours or more, so yes please. We also realise a full meal for the band can cost you more money. So, providing sandwiches or feeding us from the buffet is usually sufficient. The only thing we do ask is that you provide us with soft drinks and tea/coffee. For travel over two hours from London hot food is required. A fed band is a happy band, we perform better on a full stomach!

Can we choose the music?

You can advise us of particular favourites or definite no-nos from our playlist but the band is very experienced at reading the mood of the crowd during the evening and will always choose the right song at the right time. We tailor the music to suit each event and age-range of guests, not like some bands who have a set list of songs and play them all in the same order regardless of their audience's reaction.

Will you do a special song for our first dance?

If your choice of first dance song is not on our playlist then yes, as long as we have a minimum 6 weeks notice to arrange the song for you.

Do you have public liability insurance?

We do and all of our equipment is PAT tested. You can rest assured you are safe in our hands.

Will you visit our venue?

We will liaise directly with the venue on your behalf to check accessibility, space, power and discuss any issues before the event. If absolutely necessary we will undertake a site visit and only if its within reasonable travelling distance.

How do we book the band?

Once you are happy with the quote provided we will issue you with a contract, which needs to be signed and returned with a 20% deposit. The balance is required in full 2 weeks before your event.

Can we see you play live?

Like most professional bands, it is not always possible to come and see us live 99% of our bookings are private functions. That’s why we will provide you with all you need ie; publicity, previous clients testimonials, recommendations to help you make the right choice.

Why are you more expensive than some other bands?

Many cheaper bands don’t play music as a full-time occupation. They have day jobs and just play for fun at the weekends. One Foot in the Groove are professional musicians, they make their living out of music. So why does this matter? Well, there is a big difference between a professional band like us and your local pub band. We are reliable and our reputation depends on it. We won’t pull out the whole band if one of the members is ill or indisposed; we replace him/her with an equally talented professional, without worrying you about it. We have had calls from frantic brides looking for a band for the next day, because the one they booked has let them down. That has and never will happen with One Foot in the Groove.

Can we request specific musicians and singers when we book?

Requesting singers or specific band members can make things very complicated for us, especially when some bookings are incredibly far in advance, so we do not offer an option to pick and choose certain individuals, itís all down to availability on the date which we often wonít know until much nearer the time.

The reason the quality of the band is so good and we are in such demand is because of the musicians and singers we use. The downside of that is they also have other projects on the go and as professional musicians that is so important.

Every musician that has worked with us is of the highest standard and ALL function bands of our standard are in exactly the same boat with this. Whilst we canít guarantee the line up of the performers, we do try and book the musicians that feature so prominently in our videos.
